D and I have come to realize a major problem that may block our future together.
I refuse to perpetuate a belief in the Americanized Super-Consumer Santa Claus Myth with any and all future children we may have.
For this- D has labeled me a Scrooge.
I won't elucidate all my reasons for this here... but let's just say - if D wants pathetic susceptible children to lie to and coddle - then he can have them , just not with me!!!
Granted we have maybe a good decade still till this needs to be resolved... but it's never too soon to stake your ground.

Oh, there's no need to perpetuate the lie, others will take the liberty. Treating the mysticism as a lesson in critical thought may be more important and is definitely more entertaining (with my 4 y/o), to me.
Okay, if you think America has a super-consumerized version of Santa, wait 'til you see Japan. Christmas is nothing but a consumer-oriented gift-driven holiday, since very few people here are Christian to see the holiday as otherwise.
Case in point: Stellar Place in Sapporo's JR Tower is running an ad campaign for their "Very X'mas" sale event. It features a model and her model dog in Santa-esque lingerie, saying "onegai Santa-san!" (Please please I beg you, Mr. Santa!)
;-)
Of course, the thing that got to Roy and I is that Santa is based on St. Nicholas, so he should be called "Santa-sama". But that would imply that some western consumerist icon was actually a kami (i.e. a god) which probably wouldn't look natural next to that gal and her dachshund.
Scrooge.
Gonna have to go with yah on this one...
I much pefer Turkey day or Easter!
Chilling with fam eating food so hard to beat that!
Electra - I have full faith in the people of Japan to take our input and transform it to new and crazy heights... though I have to say I like the Mr. Santa, that's kind of cute... Mister Saint :)
Oh and Mr. Rat let's not forget - Easter in America managed to confuse Jesus rising from the dead with rotting out children's teeth with candy... WWJD???
Ironically enough the other Christian holiday where we think about death (All Saints, and all Souls days) has also turned into a dentist's dream, funny about that.
And the original Thanksgiving is pretty much celebrating the last time for some four hundred years that the New Americans were nice to the Original Americans... I guess that truly is something to celebrate.
Don't mess with me - I will ruin all your holidays!!!
